Savannah Gardner & The Recovering Good Girls – Born in the Wrong Generation
There’s something about this track that just stops you in your tracks. From the first note, it feels like you’ve stepped into a smoky old bar where the jukebox only plays the good stuff. Savannah Gardner’s vocals have that raw, soulful edge — not trying to be perfect, just real. And The Recovering Good Girls back her up with this laid-back, classic groove that gives the whole thing room to breathe.
This one’s become a firm favourite live ever since I first heard it debuted last year. She often opens it with a bit of Bruce Springsteen — which is always a moment — but the track honestly doesn’t need that at all. It stands strong on its own. The recorded version captures everything I loved about hearing it live — the build-ups, the breakdowns, the space — it’s all there. She’s nailed it. The production isn’t overdone or polished to death — it keeps all that rawness and energy intact, which is exactly what this song needs.
“Born in the Wrong Generation” isn’t trying to be trendy. It’s not chasing radio hits or algorithms — it’s just honest, timeless songwriting. Lyrically, it really lands. That sense of feeling like you don’t quite fit in today’s world? It’s something a lot of us get, especially in a scene that still values storytelling and heart. You can tell this comes from a genuine place.
I’m honestly excited to see what’s next for Savannah. There’s a real wave of young, bright traditional country artists coming through right now — and this puts her right at the top of that list.
